In Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, a three-day satellite event of the V Congress of Young Scientists has started
The event brought together more than a hundred promising researchers, engineers, and experts from different regions of Russia on one platform to address the current challenges facing the Sakhalin region and the country as a whole. The participants were welcomed by Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Denis Sekirinsky and Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Sakhalin Region Vyacheslav Alenkov.
Regional satellite events of the Congress of Young Scientists are held annually throughout Russia and serve as a platform for dialogue between science, business, and government. The Congress is a key annual event of the Decade of Science and Technology, declared by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation in 2022–2031
"Satellite events of the Congress of Young Scientists are held in the regions of Russia as part of the Decade of Science and Technology, declared by the President of the Russian Federation. In this format, the region acts as a qualified customer for solving tasks that cannot be accomplished without science and technology. The Sakhalin region was chosen as the venue for the satellite event not by chance. The region is a strategic test site for testing and implementing advanced technologies in demand both in the Far East and throughout Russia. The result of the satellite should be not only ideas but also specific projects and solutions that can subsequently be included in the region's scientific and technological development program – said the Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Denis Sekirinsky .
The goal of the Sakhalin satellite event is to develop specific solutions for the development of key industries in the region. The focus of the discussions is on four strategic directions: the development of shelf mineral resources, ensuring the energy security of remote settlements using hybrid technologies, the reproduction of salmonid populations and deep processing of bioresources, and the development of the educational system
"For the government of the Sakhalin region, supporting science and education is an absolute priority. We purposefully create conditions for the work of our university and academic institutions." It is especially valuable that it is the young scientists gathered here who will offer solutions for the real sector of the economy. There is a significant demand for new technologies from the business side—oil and gas, energy, industrial—and we are confident that this satellite will become a productive platform for generating practical ideas — emphasized the deputy chairman of the government of the Sakhalin region Vyacheslav Alenkov .
The participants of the event were young scientists, representatives of leading companies in the region, government bodies, as well as students and teachers of SakhGU. The work is carried out in groups under the guidance of recognized experts
One of the groups will focus on issues of biodiversity conservation. As noted by Alexander Barbarich , Vice-Rector for Economic Affairs of Pacific State University: "Our team will focus on a comprehensive solution — from spawning habitat ecology and artificial salmon reproduction to creating modular mini-plants for deep processing of raw materials. Geneticists, biopharmaceutical and processing specialists, as well as experts studying fish migration in the Sakhalin region, are involved in the work." .
Special attention will be paid to the development of engineering education and working with talents. Participants in the discussions will discuss how to find, support, and retain talented youth in engineering education, including using IT technologies
"We propose to create a network model of cooperation between universities. This will allow each university to share its unique competencies, expand educational programs, and build individual trajectories for students. The key goal is to form a stable science-business link to achieve a synergistic effect," — shared Denis Yanyshev Director of the Center for the Development of Electronic Educational Resources at Lomonosov Moscow State University
The outcome of the satellite event will be recommendations for government bodies and businesses on developing the declared directions. The most promising projects will be presented at the V Congress of Young Scientists, which will take place on November 26-28 at the Sirius University of Science and Technology. The event is held as part of the Decade of Science and Technology and the national project "Youth and Children."
